Day 35

Day 35, originally uploaded by simplysilly.

Nothing better than having hardly any food leftover from a party. That there is a little angel food cake and some brownies left is a sure sign of a culinary success. We had an open house with 31 gifts, Uppercase Living, Scentsy and Polameva Scarves.  For food we had raspberry truffle brownies, regular brownies, chocolate fondue with summer fruit and angel food cake for dipping and cheese fondue with french bread and crackers for dipping. YUMMY!! Thanks to my friend Jennifer for the recipes! Want the recipes? Ok here ya go:

Cheese Fondue:
1/2 Cup BUTTER
2 C Milk (I used 2%)
1 lb American Cheese (the slices work best – believe it or not!) cubed
1/4 C flour
1/2 package dry onion soup mix soaked in 1/4 C water for 5 minutes

Heat butter and milk over medium heat until butter is melted. SLOWLY add cheese, flour, and onion soup mix.

Mix all together until creamy and put into fondue pot. Use breads/crackers/vegetables to dip! This was a HUGE hit.

TIP: I took some of the warm milk mixture and combined it with the flour to make a paste almost and poured that into the cheese/milk/butter mixture so it wasn’t lumpy.

Chocolate Fondue:
3 – 3oz bars of Toblerone Chocolate (but you can substitute with a quality MILK chocolate like Ghiradelli if you don’t like the toffee or nougat bits)
1/2 C heavy cream
2 Tbsp Kirsch, Brandy or Cointreau – or your preferred liquer. Chambord would be another good addition. I didn’t use any wine or alcohol in this fondue but it was still wonderful.

Break Toblerone into triangles. SLOWLY melt chocolate in the microwave in a microwave safe bowl. I usually do it in 20-30 second intervals and stir between. SLOWLY add cream while stirring until chocolate is melted and smooth. Pour into fondue pot and set to low or warm if using an electric pot.

berries – strawberries, blueberries, raspberrie,s blackberries-, angel food cake, ritz crackers, bananas, pineapple, apples, melon, plums, peaches, pretty much any kind of fruit you want. Ladyfingers or poundcake could be good too. Mmmm…..
